The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group is seeking public input on a draft restoration plan proposing an investment of up to $2 billion in the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion project.

The Florida Trustee Implementation Group has released its Draft Restoration Plan 2 and Environmental Assessment. The draft plan is consistent with the Trustees’ Programmatic Restoration Plan and proposes projects for restoring natural resources and services injured or lost in Florida as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group is continuing restoration planning to address injuries caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and we would like your input regarding natural resource restoration opportunities in Louisiana. We will consider a range of activities within the Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats Restoration Type, under the Restore and Conserve Habitat goal.

After four successful years, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and NOAA entered  the fifth year of the Deepwater Horizon Oceanic Fish Restoration Project. This 2021 season began on January 1 and will end June 30.

Eleven fishermen from Florida and Louisiana are participating. They’re stepping up to take a voluntary break from pelagic longline fishing. They’ll also have options to use alternative gear that reduces bycatch of non-target species to continue to bring fish to market.

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group held its 2020 annual public meeting on December 15, 2020 via an online video presentation. The presentation included updates on the Alabama Trustee Implementation Group’s ongoing work implementing restoration projects approved in Early Restoration and the first three post-settlement restoration plans—including the most recent plan approved in December 2019.

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group marked another major milestone as the State of Alabama recently completed acquisition of a large parcel of land on the west end of Dauphin Island. The acquisition conserves habitat for coastal bird populations that are dependent on the area. Located near the mouth of Mobile Bay, Dauphin Island is a 166 square mile barrier island.
