The Mobile Street Boardwalk project at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge was approved to receive additional funding.

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group has approved additional funding for reconstruction of the Mobile Street Boardwalk at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

This project was originally proposed for implementation in the 2019 Final Restoration Plan III and Environmental Assessment: Provide and Enhance Recreational Opportunities; and Birds at a cost of $1,189,899.

The budget increase approved through the Final Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Recreation Enhancements: Supplemental Restoration Plan (PDF, 23 pages) will increase funding available for the project by approximately $2 million. The additional funding is due to unforeseen circumstances since the 2019 approval of the project including the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the availability and cost of labor and materials, hurricane damage, and a better understanding of the project’s complexity.

The 30-day public comment period for the Draft Supplemental Plan ended on August 18, 2022. Only one comment was received; it offered general support for the alternative selected in the Final Supplemental Restoration Plan.
