New Atlas Tracks Progress of Early Restoration Projects
This information is available and being periodically updated on the trusteesâ interactive atlas, which allows for easy viewing, searching, and sorting of the projects.
Early restoration is an opportunity to help restoration get started faster. It can be implemented prior to the completion of the Natural Resource Damage Assessment process, which is complex and in large cases can last many years.
For the Deepwater Horizon spill, BP provided an unprecedented $1 billion for early restoration. This represents an initial step toward fulfilling the companyâs obligation to compensate the public for losses to natural resources and natural resource services injured by the spill.
The trustees continue to pursue additional restoration projects. Â Â All previously submitted project proposals remain under consideration. Â Learn more about early restoration for the spill, and subscribe to NOAAâs e-mail list to receive updates about the NRDA process.
