Project Will Restore Oceanic Fish in the Gulf of Mexico

The Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Group (TIG) is implementing a project to help restore pelagic fish in the Gulf. This project will benefit the Gulf of Mexico in the short- and long-term and will compensate for impacts from the spill.

Many Gulf oceanic fish, eggs, and larvae were injured by the oil and chemicals used for cleanup. Species injured include pelagic (or open-ocean) fish such as tuna, billfish, sharks and mackerel.

Project Ideas Requested for Restoration in Florida

The Florida Trustee Implementation Group (TIG) is inviting the public to submit project ideas for restoration in Florida.

We are accepting ideas for the following restoration types:

  • Habitat Projects on Federally Managed Lands (Programmatic Restoration Plan Sections 5.5.3, 5.D.1): focuses on the many habitats that were injured on lands managed by federal agencies, which could include restoration of wetlands, dunes and beaches, oyster reefs, Submerged Aquatic Vegetation, and barrier islands. Save the Date: Mississippi TIG Public Meeting

The Mississippi Trustee Implementation Group (MS TIG) will hold its first annual public meeting on November 15, 2016, in Biloxi, Mississippi. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality’s (MDEQ's) Restoration Summit. During the Restoration Summit, representatives from the MS TIG will provide an update on our restoration planning efforts and will be available to answer questions during the Restoration Summit’s open house. We look forward to seeing the public at this meeting.

Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group Releases First Draft Restoration Plan

The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group has released its first restoration plan to address natural resource injuries from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The plan is consistent with the Trustees’ programmatic restoration plan

The draft restoration plan covers engineering and design activities for six proposed projects, which will restore:

  • wetlands, coastal and nearshore habitats in Barataria, Terrebonne, and Pontchartrain basins;
  • habitat projects on federally managed lands in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve; and
  • birds.
