The Monitoring Approaches for Dolphin Restoration in Louisiana project has reached a significant milestone with the publication of four foundational documents. Funded by the Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group, the goal of this NOAA-led project was to develop comprehensive plans that, when funded, would help to understand better Louisiana’s dolphins, including their populations and the threats they face.

The newly released documents, developed in partnership with the National Marine Mammal Foundation, provide a crucial scientific and operational foundation to address high-priority data gaps in dolphin restoration. This work is being used to inform the planning, design, and evaluation of restoration activities for bottlenose dolphins.

The information contained within these documents are crucial for developing future restoration activities to reduce threats faced by dolphin populations and monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness.
