Public meetings

During the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) process, the trustees are engaging with the public to explain NRDA and to solicit comments and input on the restoration plan as needed. The most prominent forum to engage the public is through the use of public meetings. The trustees are presenting a series of public meetings in each Gulf state.

Public meetings provide an opportunity for people to gain knowledge of the restoration process by speaking one-on-one with individuals or asking questions in a town hall setting addressing a larger group. Representatives from the involved federal agencies can also relay important information to local citizens while also listening to the public’s comments and concerns about the NRDA process.

The next meetings are focused on the draft plan for the third phase of Early Restoration, which proposes more than $625 million in new early restoration projects across the Gulf states. The draft plan also outlines the Trustees’ proposed programmatic approach to early restoration planning for Phase III and future early restoration plans.
