Alabama Trustees Approve Restoration Plan III Addendum

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group has approved an addendum (PDF, 3 pages) to its Final Restoration Plan III and Environmental Assessment: Provide and Enhance Recreational Opportunities; and Birds. Restoration Plan III includes a suite of projects under the Provide and Enhance Recreational Opportunities Restoration Type, including two conditionally approved projects — Perdido Beach Public Access Coastal Protection and the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Recreation Enhancement-Mobile St. Boardwalk.

Restoration Begins on North Breton Island

On December 9, 2020 construction began on North Breton Island with the first cubic yards of dredged sand placed on the island.

Alabama Trustees Invite Public Comment on Draft Addendum to Restoration Plan III

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group has released a Draft Addendum to its Final Restoration Plan III and Environmental Assessment: Provide and Enhance Recreational Opportunities; and Birds, which was finalized in December 2019. The addendum is available for public comment through December 23, 2020.

The restoration plan included a suite of projects under the Provide and Enhance Recreational Opportunities Restoration Type, including two conditionally approved projects:

  • Perdido Beach Public Access Coastal Protection
  • Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge Recreation Enhancement-Mobile St

The Alabama Trustee Implementation Group for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill will hold its 2020 annual public meeting on December 15, 2020 via an online video presentation. The presentation will include updates on the Alabama Trustee Implementation Group’s ongoing work implementing restoration projects approved in Early Restoration, and the first three restoration plans—including the most recent plan approved in December 2019.

Louisiana Trustees Approve $234.6 Million to Restore Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats and Birds

The Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group has released the Final Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment #7: Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats, and Birds (PDF, 318 pages). The plan includes projects that restore the Wetlands, Coastal, and Nearshore Habitats and Birds Restoration Types. It includes five projects which have a total estimated cost of $234.6 million.

We accepted comment from August 20, 2020 through September 22, 2020 and held a public meeting on September 2, 2020.

Open Ocean 2020 Annual Meeting Presentation, Materials Available

The Open Ocean Trustee Implementation Group held its annual public meeting via an interactive webinar on November 5, 2020.

During the meeting, we presented information on Open Ocean Restoration Area projects and monitoring and adaptive management activities. We also provided updates on partnerships, outreach and engagement.

Florida Trustees Holding Annual Public Meeting on December 8

The Florida Trustee Implementation Group will hold its annual public meeting via a webinar on December 8, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. ET. During the meeting we will present an update on Florida Restoration Area plans, projects, and activities. Monitoring Work Will Address Data Gaps, Inform Colonial Waterbird Restoration Planning

The Regionwide Trustee Implementation Group is set to begin collecting information that will help us restore bird populations injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill across the northern Gulf of Mexico.
