More than Just a Boat Ramp: Mahogany Mill Boat Ramp and Park Development in Florida

The goal of some of the restoration projects we've undertaken is to help compensate for recreational opportunities that were lost as a result of the spill. One of these projects is the Mahogany Mill Boat Ramp and Park in Pensacola, Florida.

As part of the $2.5 million project, we built a brand new boat ramp and park that is now maintained by Escambia County. We also reconstructed a public road that leads to the park so that it meets local standards, including wider travel lanes.

The park includes an ADA-accessible sidewalk, piers, and picnic pavilion as well as an educational kiosk that provides information about environmental and wildlife issues. All of these features enable visitors to enjoy greater access to Bayou Chico.

This project's creative design features include porous concrete pavement throughout the parking area, which prevents dirty stormwater from flowing into the bayou. Mahogany Mill Boat Ramp and Park was completed in the summer of 2014 and will provide recreational opportunities for years to come.
